Terms of service
Plain-English terms for BigBrain product subscriptions (godspeed, ash, alice, conjure, boltzmann), operated by BigBrain LLC.
The deal
- BigBrain products are licensed, not sold: one monthly subscription covering the products you chose (see pricing). Founders keep their price for as long as their subscription stays active; each product’s price doubles for new subscribers at its 1.0.
- One subscription = one person. Install your products on the machines you personally use — a license key works on any supported OS and moves between your computers freely.
- Everything you make with our products is yours — no claim on your work, no telemetry of it. That is unconditional and it does not expire with your subscription. Artwork you create in godspeed is yours outright: meshes, textures, materials, scenes and anything else you author stay yours to use, sell and license anywhere, forever, whether you subscribe or not. We claim nothing on them, ever.
- The one thing that is not free forever is running our runtime, which is a separate matter from what you made with it — see the runtime below. While you subscribe, it costs nothing.
The keys
- Each product in your subscription has its own license key. Your keys are yours; do not publish or resell them. A key that leaks into public circulation may be revoked (we will re-issue to the legitimate owner).
- Changing your product mix is a plan switch in the Stripe billing portal; keys for added products arrive by email, keys for removed products deactivate at the switch.
- Cancel any time from the Stripe billing portal link in your receipt emails; your products keep working until the paid period ends, plus a short grace window.
The runtime
- Every BigBrain product runs on the godspeed runtime. While your subscription is active, the runtime costs you nothing beyond the subscription: ship what you build on it, sell it, charge whatever you like, and you owe us no royalty and no revenue share.
- If your subscription ends, any application or model you continue to run on the godspeed runtime carries 1% of the gross revenue it earns from that point on — gross meaning what your users pay you, before your own costs, platform fees and taxes.
- This is never retroactive. Revenue you earned while subscribed is not counted, ever, no matter how much of it there was. The 1% applies only to what an application earns after the subscription that built it has lapsed.
- Artwork is exempt. The 1% attaches to running our runtime, never to what you made with our tools. Selling meshes, textures, materials or scenes you authored in godspeed carries nothing, subscribed or not.
- Why this exists: people build things on the runtime and then depend on it for years, long after they stop paying. Keeping it working — ported, patched, and secure — costs us something whether or not the people relying on it are still subscribers, and the 1% is that cost. Keeping a subscription is always the cheaper path, and it is the one we would rather you take.
The fine print
- The software is provided as-is, without warranty; our total liability is capped at the fees you paid in the last 12 months.
- Payments are processed by Stripe; we never see or store your card number.
- These terms may evolve with the product; material changes are announced by email.
